The Generals outlast the Miracle after 10 innings07/11/2024 9:52 PM - A 10-inning pitchers duel highlighted the Griffith Generals and the Elkhart County Miracle's first game back from the All-Star break. The Generals 10th inning run pushed them ahead of the Miracle for a 2-1 win.
The Generals scored early in the second inning when Angel Ramirez reached base then advanced to third base on an error and came in to score on a passed ball, giving the Generals a 1-0 lead.
The 1-0 Generals lead held strong until the fifth inning when an error allowed AJ Van Bogaert to score tying the game at 1-1.
Each team's pitching staff controlled the game holding the game at a 1-1 tie after nine innings. With a runner placed on second base to start each extra inning, Jake Osteen singled in the tenth allowing Elias Caraballo to score from second taking the 2-1 lead.
Hunter Smith continued on the mound for the Generals in the bottom of the tenth inning and sent the Miracle batters down in order, to close out the extra-inning win for Griffith. Smith earned the win for the Generals with three innings of work, allowing two hits and striking out one batter.
Ian Clark started on the mound for the Generals tossing five innings and held the Miracle hitless for four and two-thirds innings. Clark allowed just one hit and zero earned runs while striking out five Miracle batters. Adam Young was the first General out of the bullpen pitching two innings of scoreless ball, allowing just two hits and striking out 2 batters.
Pablo Ruiz pitched all 10 innings for the Miracle allowing the one run on seven hits while striking out seven and walking six.
Ramirez and Osteen led the Generals at the plate with two hits each. Osteen had one run batted in, the winning run. Ayden Elixson had two walks out of the three-hole in the lineup. The Generals' defense was also strong in dangerous situations turning three double plays in the 10 innings.
The Generals improve to 9-14 on the season and sit in third place in the Northern League.
"We battled today," said Generals manager Amir Wright, "it'll lead us into the second half of. the season."
The Generals take on the Northwest Indiana Oilmen on Friday at Oil City Stadium at 7:10 p.m.
