Generals Lose Thriller to Corn Dogs 9-706/04/2023 7:53 PM - GRIFFITH, Ind. – The Griffith Generals showed promising signs of improvement despite dropping their fourth straight game to start the season, as they fell to the Lake County Corn Dogs 9-7. At one point in the game, the Generals had a 7-5 lead, their first this season. Billy Jones led the way offensively for Griffith, as he went 2-5 with a double and 2 RBI. Osvaldo Ballesteros put together a quality start on the mound, as he threw five innings and gave up three earned runs on 78 pitches. “We had to make something happen,” remarked Jones after the game. “We made a group chat, talked about what we needed to do, and we’re figuring it out.” The Generals showed improvement defensively, as their two errors in today’s performance was the smallest total in a game for them all year. A .137 team average was improved on as well, as nine hits flew off the Griffith bats. “We played baseball today. It was good.” said manager Peter Romsek. “Still room for improvement there [defensively]. Offensive breakout for us there, was waiting for that to click for us. We’re finally starting to see it pay off with continuing at bats and some balls kicking our way.” After an off day tomorrow, the Generals will have a 13-day stretch of games before their next break, which is their longest this season. Coach Romsek emphasized the importance of the guys getting “as far away as baseball as they can” before the grind starts. “Go golf. Play video games. Going into it, it’s a grind,” said Romsek regarding the marathon ahead of the Generals. “It’ll be exciting and really good to get on the road. Playing that many games in a row, you’ll get to know everybody well.” The 13-day stretch will start at home against the Elkhart County Miracle at 7:10 p.m. |
