On Opening Day, the Griffith Generals won 5-2 over the Indiana Panthers.

Justin Schassburger started on the mound for the Generals, he was awarded the win after 5.2 innings of work.

"He came out and he was efficient," said Generals' manager Amir Wright, "most batters tonight he was, 1-2, 0-2, he truly just hit his spots."

Schassburger struck out 10 of the 21 batters he faced.

A four-run fourth gave the Generals an early 5-0 lead. Generals' shortstop Yashion Boswell opened the floodgates with a line drive to right field to score Isaiah Thompson and Braylon Holland.

Boswell had one hit and one walk out of the two-spot in the lineup.

"[Boswell] took what they gave him," said Wright, "he stuck to a good approach tonight."

The Generals head to Oil City Stadium for a Friday night matchup with the Northwest Indiana Oilmen. The Oilmen won the first game of their young season Thursday night 9-1 over the Southland Vikings.

Friday night's game starts at 7:10 p.m. at Oil City Stadium in Whiting.

"Friday night game at their place, it's going to be a good battle," said Wright.

The Generals are 1-0 on the season and return to Brian Jennings Field on Sunday against the Elkhart County Miracle.
