A big seventh inning for the Miracle lifts them over the Generals

06/06/2024 10:05 PM -

After three consecutive rainouts, the Griffith Generals finally returned to the diamond in Elkhart to face the Miracle.

While it took the Generals a while to avoid a rainout, it did not take the Elkhart County Miracle long to get their first runs on the board. A two-RBI single in the bottom of the first quickly gave the Miracle an early lead.

The Generals first hit came off of a deep double to left-centerfield off the bat of Braylon Holland, who got the start behind the plate with Justin Schassburger on the mound.

A solo home run from Miracle First basemen Lasher on the first pitch of the third inning added another run to the Miracle's lead.

The Generals got rolling in the sixth inning and brought the miracle's lead to just one, bringing the score to 4-3 with a Cole Hockman line drive single to right field that scored Jayden Rhyne and Isaiah Thompson.

However, the Miracle quickly replenished their lead, scoring five runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Julio Garcia earned the win for Miracle. Garcia allowed six hits and three runs over nine innings, striking out 11 and walking four.

Adam Young took the loss for Griffith Generals. The reliever went three innings, surrendering one run on two hits, striking out five and walking one.

The Generals and the Miracle face off two more times this weekend at Brian Jennings Field in Griffith with games on Saturday and Sunday, 7 p.m. and 4 p.m. first pitches, respectively.

The Generals fall to 1-2 on the year.
