Don't call it a comeback, the Generals add four in the fourth for the win06/12/2024 11:00 PM - Angel Ramirez led the Griffith Generals Wednesday night at the plate with three hits and one RBI. The Generals' four-run fourth inning pushed them ahead of the Indiana Panthers, eventually winning 6-4.
Ramirez added the sixth run of the day with an RBI single that scored Jayden Rhyne from second base.
"Today, I came out and had fun," said Ramirez, "the slump is over."
The Panthers opened the scoring with a Mark Mennecke RBI single in the first inning. The Panthers scratched three runs across the plate in the first inning.
The Generals' comeback started in the fourth inning when Graham Gonzalez singled and Devin Dizon doubled, each hit scored two runs. The Generals lead 5-4 after the 4th inning.
Jaren Jackson got his first start for the Generals this season. Jackson allowed four runs on five hits over five innings, striking out four and walking seven.
"I didn't have my best stuff, I went five innings on just my fastball," said Jackson, "[I] trust my guys, I've got four guys in the infield and three in the outfield." The Panthers had runners on at least first and second base in all five of Jackson's innings.
Will Gimbel started on the rubber for the Panthers. Gimbel earned the loss while allowing five runs on eight hits over six innings of work.
Griffith used Hunter Smith and Braylon Holland in relief, each reliever held the Panthers scoreless through four innings. Holland pitched in the ninth and earned the save.
"They're putting in the work, and I'm glad the work is paying off," said Generals Manager Amir Wright.
Griffith collected 12 hits in the matchup, Gonzalez and Dizon each drove in two runs from the one and two spots in the lineup. Isaiah Thompson, Rhyne and Ayden Elixson each had two hits.
"We're working all fields now," said Wright, "we're taking balls the other way and taking what pitchers are giving us."
The Generals improve to 3-5 on the year with their second straight win. Griffith travels to Highland on Thursday for another matchup with the Panthers at 7 p.m. at Highland High School. |
