One bad inning gives Generals a loss to the Oilmen06/21/2024 10:38 PM - The Northwest Indiana Oilmen scored 12 runs in the fifth inning, which propelled them to defeat the Griffith Generals 13-2 on Friday.
Griffith Generals were the first to get on the board in the third when Jaime Luna grounded out, scoring two runs.
The Generals looked to be in control of the game with Justin Schassburger on the mound, until the fifth inning.
The Oilmen flipped the game on its head in the fifth, scoring 12 runs on seven hits to take a 12-2 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Ryan Henschel that drove in two. Henschel went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a single. Henschel had four RBIs.
RJ Bergren earned the win for the Oilmen. The pitcher allowed four hits and two runs over five and one-third innings, striking out seven.
Justin Schassburger took the loss for the Generals. Schassburger went four innings, giving up 10 runs on six hits, striking out six and walking three. Schassburger started on the mound in the fifth inning but failed to record an out.
Griffith Generals play at home on Sunday against Hammond Vikings at Brian Jennings Field with a scheduled first pitch time of 4 p.m.
