Colin McCarty and Braylon Holland squash the Miracle07/02/2024 9:46 PM - The Griffith Generals defeated the Northern League-leading Elkhart County Miracle 2-1 on Tuesday night in Elkhart.
Colin McCarty held the Miracle hitless until one out in the fourth inning when Dylan Pinero broke the tie and broke up the no-hitter bid with a solo home run over the leftfield wall.
However, the Generals' bats were squandered until two outs in the sixth inning when Ayden Elixson singled to break up Russo's own no-hitter bid. Elixson's single scored Jaden Jackson who walked earlier in the inning, tying the game at 1-1.
Baserunners, let alone hits, continued to be hard to come by for both teams until the eighth when Tripp Davis singled to the left side and brought Aydin Wright across the plate after he reached on an error earlier in the game giving the Generals the lead at 2-1.
Both teams had stellar performances from their pitching staffs. The Generals struck out seven batters and the Miracle sat nine batters down.
Colin McCarty started on the mound for Griffith, through five innings McCarty allowed just one run off of two hits while striking out five batters. Generals manager Amir Wright entrusted Braylon Holland with the final four innings of the game and Holland delivered. Holland earned the win for the Generals allowing just one hit and zero runs over four innings while striking out two Miracle batters.
Sam Russo tossed seven and one-third innings for the Miracle before turning the ball over to Christopher Gonzalez. Russo earned the loss for the Miracle while surrendering two runs in four hits and striking out six Generals at the plate.
Elixson and Davis each collected two hits and one RBI for the Generals, hitting back-to-back in the three and four holes. Davis batted in the winning run. The Generals did not commit an error in Tuesday night's game.
The Generals improve to 8-13 and will travel to Dowling Park on Wednesday for a matchup with the Hammond Vikings with a scheduled first pitch of 2 p.m.
