First inning pushes the Miracle past the Generals07/19/2024 9:47 PM - The Griffith Generals could not overcome a six-run first inning from the Elkhart County Miracle on Friday night as they fell to the Northern League's second-place team 7-1.
The Miracle got on the board first after Juan Pinuelus drew a walk, scoring one run. Also in the inning, Gabriel Chrinos' bases-clearing double with the bases loaded and Kristian Scalf singled, scoring two more runs.
The Generals scored their only run in the top of the eighth inning while Tripp Davis was at the plate. A passed ball allowed Jake Osteen to score from third base, bringing the deficit to 7-1.
Cooper Hansen started on the mound for the Generals. After enduring a long first inning Hansen shut down the Miracle's lineup for five innings. Hansen allowed seven hits over six innings with six hits, two strikeouts and six walks.
Kristian Scalf set the tone for the Miracle at the plate and on the mound. The starting pitcher tossed six innings of scoreless ball, only allowing one hit. Scalf was also 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two RBIs.
Osteen led the Generals at the plate going 2-for-4 and one walk. The Generals' lineup amassed seven walks during the game, Graham Gonzalez and Ayden Elixson each had two.
The Generals sit firmly in third place in the Northern League despite having the league's worst run differential at -71.
Griffith falls to 10-16 and will return home on Sunday to Brian Jennings Field to face off with the Hammond Vikings who sit in fourth place the Northern League at 6-19.
